Building capacity in ETD practice, requires duly equipped Facilitators to conduct learning programmes and registered Assessors to assess learner's competence against pre-set criteria. Combining the training of facilitators and assessors to optimise on outcomes-based principles in delivery of learning programmes, provides the opportunity to ensure quality, fit-for-purpose and efficient learning experiences.

Practitioners with no previous educator qualifications will benefit from the Master Facilitator programme, whilst those educators needing to deliver outcomes-based training and assessment will be duly qualified through the Practical Facilitation course. Both courses enable successful learners to register as assessors in their constituencies.

Guidance by an Evidence Coach is a valuable add-on in preparing the learner in workplace training programmes for readiness to be assessed. The Evidence Coach will add value to the assessment process by ensuring that candidates are ready to present well-organised and complete portfolios of evidence or demonstrate their skills to a registered assessor. Their value will be particularly felt when assisting candidates who are competent in their field, but unable to present coherent evidence to support the fact. An effective evidence coach will decrease the demands on the Assessor in workplace learning programmes. It is suggested that Supervisors in the workplace be trained as Evidence Coaches. From this group of trainees, suitable candidate-assessors can be identified for a further 2 day training session.

The development of learning  material requires an understanding of the principles of outcomes-based education combined with the practice of backward-design. At Kaleidoprax, we believe and practice designing of learning experiences!

We experience tough times in our country. Therefore it is important to develop people and their capacity in order to increase the skills pool across all industries.

Training practitioners must however take up the responsibility to deliver a learning experience that is fit for purpose and has the best impact on the learner.

Learning programme managers should not compromise on quality of learning for any reason whatsoever. If we truly pursue the accomplishment of the outcomes set for a particular programme, we will ensure that the learning experience is maximized, transfer of learning is taking place, and application is practiced in the workplace. If your calling is people empowerment, then truly do so. If you can't stand the heat, then get out of the kitchen!
